I havent posted here in a while but you guys didnt steer me wrong last time. Long story short my rx-a2020 stopped working (chip needs to be heated to make the speakers come on) a couple days ago and I am looking to upgrade. I am going to buy thru accessories4less again. I am debating between the rx-a2080 or the rx-a4a. I have emptek impression series towers, center channel and bookshelf's for surround speakers. I am currently running a 5.1 setup. I am looking to add front height speakers to make a 7.1 with the new receiver. The main reason I am debating these two receiver is because the 2080 has 140wpc and a4a has110wpc. Are the features of the a4a worth the sacrifice of 30wpc? We listen to a lot of music so I am not sure how the lesser powered receiver will perform. I am used to the power of the a2020 which we very rarely have it turned higher than -15db.

Any opinions, options are welcome. I am trying to stay below $1300. I was also considering the denon x4500h but they are currently out of stock at accesories4less. 8k receiver doesn't matter to me.
Thanks

Look at other AVR's, there are many others that will best that Yamaha RX-A6A. That AVR isn't even recommend by AH. A matter of FACT, Not one of Yamahas new line is recommend. You'd be better off getting a Anthems or ROTEL even a Sony AVR will out perform any new Yamaha line out on the market. Buy from a reputable retailer with a good exchange policy.

Go for the RX-A2080 unless you need 8K video for gaming. Its a beast of an amp compared to the RX-A4A and has far more IO and speaker drive capability than the A4A.

Yeah seriously, if it’s only between the A4 vs 2080, I would get the 2080 also.

I am considering the A4A as well, the 2080 is no where to be found locally, what makes the A4a less desirable? I had landed on this over the rz50, I am powering a 7.1 set up with Axiom floor standing speakers,

btw I found a pretty good deal on the Yammie.

thx

Well, I think most people consider the RX-A4 to be equivalent to the RX-A1080 and the RX-A2080/3080 are probably closer to the RX-A6A. In reality, the A4A might be between the 1080 and 2080.

But other than that, I think the A4A is great.

Thx Acudef! Thinking the A2080 is out anyway due to the 2.1 hdmi higher frame rate for ps5 etc…

but there is always the Onkyo Rz50, Arghhhh what a rabbit hole!
