Receiver Upconvert with HDMI to DVI cable?

Got a question about upconverting using an HDMI to DVI cable. I'm really interested in the Denon 2807 coming out hopefully soon, but I'm wondering how the video upconversion will work on my Sony HDTV with no HDMI. I have the Sony KV-34XBR910 and it only has DVI for digital input. If I'm going video out from the receiver to the TV using an HDMI to DVI cable will the upconversion work ok? If it does work ok, I shouldn't see any loss in picture quality either should I? It's an all digital connection even with the HDMI to DVI cable. Here is some info I got from a review of my TV on Cnet. This may help answer some questions.

This set can directly accept 1080i and 480p video but converts 720p HDTV to 1080i. Sony's built-in Digital Reality Creation (DRC) processor scales standard television signals from cable, satellite, VHS, and so on to your choice of either 480p or 960i.

Thanks for any help offered.

I am currently running DVI-out of my Hughes DirecTv HD box & into my Pioneer VSX-72TXV with an HDMI adapter. Also, I'm using HDMI out from the receiver into my Sony 51' HDTV with a DVI-adapter. It upconverts fine. The picture looks as good as when I had it connected directly to the TV. I decided to go this route to eliminate the # of cables running to the TV and because I read the HDMI was backwards compatible with DVI.

Thanks for the info, thats about exactly what I want to do. It's going to be nice to have everything plugged into the receiver and let it do all the switching and converting. I'll probably have a DVD player, DirecTV Mpeg4 DVR (Whenever it comes out), an XBOX 360, and a Media Center plugged into that Denon.

Thanks again

As I understand it, DVI is the equivalent of HDMI, but without the audio portion of the signal. If you're like most of us, the TVs audio output is not used anyway.
