Hello and thanks for providing input.
I'll be building a home entertainment setup that I'd also like to double for
fairly loud, clean monitoring of music and vocal/guitar practice also.
I'll be using an Ampeg SS35 studio amp for my guitar, but would like to feed
the vocals and backing tracks through Pro Tools/Cubase on my computer and on through the receiver/amp.
So here's what it has to do.

-Be fairly loud and clean with music to keep up with the SS35 studio amp in a 18x12 room. 2 channel is ok here.
-Be able to accept and cleanly play a computer output of Pro Tools/Cubase.
-Have the latest A/V capabilities and surround for video/bluray that won't be outgrown quickly and sound good in 5.1 mode for video.
-Be able to play multiple sources simultaneously if possible ie. the computer input and a CD/DVD player or board output simultaneously
(don't know if this is possible but would be nice)
-Not exceed $500 by too much if at all.

Off the top of the head, maybe a Yamaha V665, but am still researching
and appreciate any input/ideas.

And I know much of the sound quality I need will be determined
by the quality of the speakers used, so i'll ask that question over in the speaker section.
Thanks guys

Hi,

If you can find an Onkyo 805, that will do the trick very nicely.
I am also a musician and use my receiver plus a cd recorder to record my own
guitars; acoustic, classical and electric.
Yamaha is also nice, but I will go a little higher in the line up. I like a record
selector as a nice feature, but it is not necessary. Digital inputs and outputs are also good in your case.
If you can stretch your budget a bit, look at Onkyo & Yamaha mid/high ends.

But my vote goes to Onkyo with THX Select2 or Ultra2, plus Audyssey
MultEQ XT and excellent sound quality & value. The Onkyo 706 is also worth
considering as well as the 705. But the 805 is top notch.
If you really like Yamaha, look at the 1900 or 3900. But you will have to stretch a bit more. And in my opinion, it's worth it.

Hope this helps,

_______ Bob
