Receiver tips / suggestions

I recently purchased a pair of definitive technology 7001SC towers and was interested in getting opinions on a good receiver match / pairing. I have heard the Def. Tech. paired to both a Rotel RSX1067 and a Sony ES 5000 and found both comparable for surroud sound / theater, but found the Rotel fair fuller for music. Did not have an opportunity at the store I purchased the def. tech's from to pair them with any Marantz or Denon receivers.

I would appreciate other opinions / experiences with receivers in the <$2000 range pair with the Def. Tech speakers. I am primarly interested in audio/music and will be using the system for that purpose at this point, with the intention of adding surrounds at a later point (therefore, would like at least 5.1).

Also, is anyone aware of reliable, cost-effective on-line retailers of high end compenents?

Personally, I think the Rotel is going to sound the best of the brands you mentioned. However, you may be able to get a good deal on a Marantz at accessories4less.com. Denon also makes a solid product. My preference would be one of the other 2.

I recently purchased Def Tech 7002s along with a Pioneer Elite VSX-55TXi (Pioneer Elite DV-47Ai as well). I heartily recommend the Pioneer. I love the sound. It's like I have a whole new CD collection. I've had it for about 5 weeks and still find myself grinning uncontrollably as I listen to it.

I don't think you can go wrong with the ROTEL receiver you mentioned. For me they're the best sounding receivers in their price range.

I've always been happy with Yamaha recievers. I've owned 3 and never had any problems.

I think that Yamaha offer the best value for money recievers and for $2000 you could purchase the RX-V2400.
