Receiver/Switcher Advice Needed

I'm all wired up and ready for drywall in my new HT. I've bought the Optoma HD72 and I will be purchasing an SVS PB 10-NSD, 3-Axiom QS4s, a pair of M50towers and a VP150 center. I'll be using both Comcast's and my DVD player's HDMI outputs to run to the projector, and component for Xbox.

I'd like to stay in the $500 range for the receiver. I'm looking at VSX-80TXV and the VSX-1016TXV.

What do you guys think?

Will these suffice? ...or should I go with a different receiver and use an HDMI switcher?

Thanks

Congrats on making great purchases for your HT. Unfortunately, no receiver today will work with the STB, see here for why, STB issues with HDMI receivers. If you route the cable signal via component to the receiver, it will solve the issue since you can use the receiver to upconvert component to HDMI and have only one wire going to the TV or PJ.

Receiver and HDMI

To add to the above, you can route HDMI connections directly to your display if your TV has more than 1 HDMI input. Routing HDMI through the receiver is a problem with many cable boxes but you wont have the same issue with an external HDMI switch or a component video connection. I have heard some good reports on the monoprice manual HDMI switch, but most "automatic" switches with a remote will run $200+ for a 2x1.

The new Pioneer 1016 is one of the cheepest models with HDMI. The Yamha and Denon models with upconversion and upscalling are up in the $1k price range. If you go with an external HDMI switch, the Yamaha RX-V659 would be a good receiver option and should have plenty of power for your speakers.

Thanks for the advice

Thanks, I guess I should have read that sticky more closely. I don't have much faith in my local cable provider so for now I'll route the HDMI directly to the PJ and use component for DVD and Xbox. Off I go! Many thanks to all the help through this process. It has saved me many future headaches.
