I've Been out of the game for a while and looking for suggestions from the experts concerning purchasing a new receiver. I currently have an HK which will eventually move to my garage to fuel my Bic America's. I'm looking for a basic (inexpensive) receiver that will handle my video and audio needs via HDMI (Less cords the better for me). As dedicated as I have been to HK will also look at YAM or Den or other suggestions.
I have:
LG 47" LCD
PS3
SVS ISD12/2 Sub
Bic America Center
(2) JBL E-10's
*Appreciate your input...

Welcome to the forum, D!

You mentioned that you want it to be inexpensive. What is your budget? There are a number of options out there, and your budget combined with the features that you want will narrow it down.

Adam-
Appreciate your response...Actually not really new to the forum--been aroound for a while (couldn't remember my old account userid/password about 3 years ago). Anyway, have fallen behind when it comes to the hdmi 1.3a technology. Budget is not necessarily in question as much as looking for a quality. My needs are for an occasional BRay movie or football game or Itouch etc. I have every cord you think of from Blue Jeans quality to stuff you would find at Best Buy. My goal is to cut down and keep the same quality or improve it. Not looking for more than a 5.1. Again thanks for your interest....

I've been happy with my Pioneer gear. I recently picked up a Pioneer Elite VSX-23 and like it, although it's not better in every way than was my Pioneer VSX-1015 from four years ago. The new one does have HDMI, though, which is a big reason that I got it. The Elite VSX-21 is less expensive but wasn't available when I wanted to upgrade.

I'm not sure that I can recommend the VSX-1019. Pioneer has apparently dropped the quality of the power section within their 10XX line of receivers, which used to be close or identical to the power section of the entry-level Elites.

I will look into the pioneer line a little closer. I see you also use SVS. What happened to this site--it use to be all about SVS and now nothing? Again thanks for the time....

Agreed. I would also look at the new Denon models.

I've found Denon, HK, Marantz, Onkyo, and Yamaha to all make good receivers.

I find HK, Marantz, and Onkyo have great deal where I look. Accessories4less and the HK refurb store on ebay.

For yamaha I'd buy it from the AH store.

Denon I'm unsure of. Maybe a denon fanboy can chime in for us.

By far the cheapest hdmi receiver is the HK AVR 254 around 200 off the HK store on ebay. But it's got quirks.

At this point in time, I'd go with Denon because even their less expensive receivers have Audyssey MultEQ, which does low frequencies.

Look carefully at the features in your price range and pick based on that. I went with Denon because they tend to go with fewer features and a stronger amp/power section. I have 4 Ohm speakers so not all receivers are equal for me. If your speakers are 6+ Ohm nominal this won't be an issue.

FYI Audioholics did a series of articles on receivers in different price categories recently. It would be a good place to start.
