Receiver Suggestions for 4 ohm speakers

Can anyone recommend a quality receiver around $600 for playing music on 4 ohm Polk Audio speakers? I've been looking at the NAD T-755 as one option. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I don't need a ton of bells and whistles just something that sounds great.

FYI...I have a 5.1 set up plus 4 Klipsch outdoor speakers that I currently run through a speaker selector.

Is this for stereo listening?

Yes, I mainly want a good receiver for listening to music (cd, ipod, etc...). I will have it hooked up for surround sound while watching movies, but this is not my main priority.

Which Polks, as it could make a difference? LSis are fairly current hungry, so I would recommend something pretty stout for them. If it is for stereo as Lsiberian asked, I'd head over to Outlaw Audio and get a RR2150.

The speakers I have are LC80i's (in ceiling speakers). Not the best option for quality music listening but it is what I have to work with. In other words, it is the compromise I came to with the wife. :)

I will tell you that I have very little a/v knowledge. I'm a bit behind the technology curve. The receiver I am replacing is about 17 years old!

NAD T 755 A/V receiver --> Go for it.

The NAD T 755 is a very nice receiver, and if you can get it for $600, it is a very nice price. Your choice is a nice one indeed. I'll go with that one.
That will give you a very good sound for 2-channel stereo listening and also to watch movies in 5.1-channel surround sound. And it will take care of your Polk LC80i in-wall speakers, even at 4-ohm nominal impedance. They are rated at a high sensitivity of 90db, which helps a lot. So, don't sweat it.

I don't think you need to look any further, but if you want to have more options, you can always have a look also at the Marantz SR6003 ($700), or the Pioneer Elite SC-05 ($700). These two will also very well do, for your situation.

Sorry to be nit picky but we just want to make sure...Is it solely going to be used for two channel or do you intend to use it also with a surround speaker package, bluray dvd player and a big screen tv?

If its soley 2 channel, have you considered an integrated amp rather than a stereo receiver? The difference between a stereo receiver and the integrated amp is that the amp is missing the tuner portion (radio option) .

3db, your answer is just above your quote. (Hint = Receiver 5.1-channel.) ;)
And it is directly from the OP himself.

I don't know a lot about the speakers, but since they are polks and you do want home theater stability. I suggest you get a THX certified receiver like the Onkyo 805. Ebay might be your friend on a great deal there. Accessories4less may still have a couple though. That receiver is a monster and will drive most speakers with ease.

His in-wall Polk speakers are easy to drive Isiberian. They are 2-way (LC80i), with a 90db sensitivity and a nominal impedance of 4-ohms. They have a 1" tweeter with an 8" mid/woof. They weight 6 pounds each. They measures 11 by 11 by 5 inches. And he will cross them at 80hz or so.
But they are nice and retails for $800/pair.

So, any receiver will do.

Thanks for suggestions. Just to be clear from your post above, you still agree that the following receivers would be my best option:

#1. NAD T 755
#2. Marantz SR6003
#3. Pioneer Elite SC-05

I found a NAD T 755 for $699 (refurbed) and $799 new at Spearitsound.com. Is this a fair price?

Also, I am running 4 Klipsch Outdoor speakers to my backyard. Do you know if the NAD has a second zone or would I need to hook up a separate amp for this?

Thanks for all the help!
