Never had a HT system before. what i am looking for...
-5.1 system
-$600-700 budget
-wall mountable speakers..not bulky (WAF)
-living room is rectangular & long...open to kitchen area. so there will be open space beyond the rear speakers.
- 50-50 movies and music

I have read some about Onkyo(HTS 670?), Polk(RM6005, needs sub + receiver), Athena (micra 6), infinity (TS 540 etc). My friend suggested Rocket Tykes 5.1 system.

Can someone provide some pointers on which one would be more suitable or if there is something else out there which i havent looked at. I know i need to listen but i want to narrow down to max 3 systems to checkout.

Do you need the receiver too in the budget? Are you willing to install in-ceiling speakers?

The thread was titled: receiver+speaker suggestions anyone? So yes he needs a receiver also. At your price point I’ve heard good things about the onkyo HITBs, that’s how I’d go, but that’s just my opinion. That would give a good starting point with multiple upgrade paths in the future.

yes, receiver too in that budget. No, i dont want to do in-ceiling speakers. But as i mentioned earlier, i would prefer smaller wall mountable speakers.

Leprkon's suggestion of Athena point5 mkII + Velodyne VX10 sub + yamaha HTR5740 receiver seems to be pretty neat. Is onecall a good store to buy this stuff?
