I need a little help. I recently purchased a HSU ventiloquist speaker system with the STF-2 sub. In need a receiver to power the system but size and price are issues. The shelf the receiver must go on is only 6" high, and while I have found some receivers that are 5 13/16" tall that would leave no room for the heat to escape as I've noticed most of these units vent on the top. Can anyone recommend an affordable (<300) option that will fit in these parameters and still provide the quality I need to run this system?

Thanks

You could try one of those Sonic T amps. They will drive your speakers to only moderate levels though, and provide no source switching.

p.s.

Don't believe them when they say size doesn't matter.

Bachapuis,

I run my VT-12's on a YAMAHA RX-V559 which is a 6.1 that ought be ~ the 300 mark...... I like it a lot......and highly recommend it.

I believe that Hsu use moderate priced Onkyo receivers in testing......and you can check there forum for more details via the website....

I would strongly urge you to re-configure that 6" clearance shelf up to 10", you are going to be severely limited in receiver choice - and besides, these things need to breathe.....

Good luck....

I'd look at the Panasonic digital receivers. They are slim in profile, don't generate as much heat and they aren't too expensive. They have also gotten much praise for sound quality, so that would be what I'd look at. Amazon has a number of them on sale. SA-XR55, SA-XR-75, etc...
