ok so heres the scoop, i have a kenwood kr-v8080 receiver hooked up to 2 old altec lansing 890C Bolero speakers To the front speaker hookups (correctly). I also have an 2 rca jacks going into the cd input which runs into a mini jack to my ipod or my laptop. whenever i turn up the volume to high my receiver shuts itself off only when sound is coming out of my right speaker,(even if the fade is balanced and it is going out both speakers it will shut off)(it will also shutoff if i fade it so sound is only coming out of the right speaker by itself). if i fade it all to my left it wont turn off and i can turn it up as loud as i want. will someone please identify the problem here, help me please?

The receiver shutting off means it's going in "Protection Mode", to keep from frying it. This is USUALLY caused by a frayed speaker wire. Look at speaker connections on back of receiver, and on each speaker, and see if maybe a single strand of wire is touching something it shouldn't...............
Good luck!

The two most likely reasons were already mentioned - the impedance of the speakers is too low for the receiver or you have a shorted wire. My money woul d probably be that it is a wire issue. Another possibility is that one or more drivers is damaged and is causing the issue.
