Receiver sending rear signal to heights.

I was watching the original star wars trilogy and disabled PLIIz because the old sound wasn't playing well with the matrix and it was mostly distracting. Switching the receiver to plain DTS MA I noticed the indicators for the heights was still being displayed and it was pretty obvious it was just routing the rear channel to the heights. I can find no way to disable this in the setup menu other than to entirely disable the heights. It's an onkyo tx sr707. Any clue why it's doing this?

On my 808, I send pcm from my PS3. If I want to listen in 5.1(dtsHDMA) I choose "multichannel" in the listening modes. This disables my rear surrounds automatically. Or plIIx if I want to upmix to 7.1. Also if the hdma track is 7.1 I also have to choose "multichannel. I hope I followed the question correctly. Seems weird. If it's never done that before, maybe it needs a factory reset?

Do you have a 7ch setup with heights instead of rears? PLIIz is specifically to use heights in lieu of rear surrounds. Some receivers will take a 5.1 DTSMA signal and automatically matrix it to 7 (with no option to limit it to 5ch).

Yup, 7.1 height. I know pliiz uses heights, I'm just not sure why even direct mode keeps the heights enabled with a 6.1 or 7.1 track. It only does the with DTS MA. Lpcm or Dolby True HD reverts to 5.1 without PLIIz decoding enabled.

When it does this, turn on zone 2 and see what happens. On my 808 this will shut off the rear channels with no option to use them. Zone 2 receives priority.

PLIIz isn't a decoder....more an encoder or matrix mode. There is no height to decode, PLIIz creates it....there is no height in standard 7.1....I believe two of my avrs (a Denon and Onkyo) both with DTS-MA automatically do the 7.1 if the speakers are connected but not sure about direct mode, don't usually use that, will have to fart around with that :)
