Wow, I never thought it was going to be this complicated to pick out which receiver I would want to get. So here is the deal, I have recently purchased a sony xbr4 40 inch TV that is 1080p compatible. Right now my only component I have to plug into it is my ps3, though in the somewhat near future I will be getting a digital cable/satellite box and might run my PC through it as well. I am hoping to setup a 5.1 surround sound system for it as well, though I'm putting it together piece by piece. I figure a key part would be the AV receiver. I would like to have it as future proof as possible without breaking the bank (read under 1000, hopefully finding a good deal for around 600-700 or less, I'm not in a big hurry). Here are some things I think are key features that I would like to have:
At least 3/1 HDMI 1.3 In/Out
1080p upconverting or upscaling (I'm reasonably certain the xbr4 does 1080p upscaling is that correct? So I think I just need upconverting)
Various other inputs for component/rca older consoles and such.
Dolby TrueHD
DTS-HD
THX certified
HD radio receiver would be nice, but not necessary
At least 5.1 support (6.1, 7.1 would be nice for future proof)
Thats all I can remember right now, is there anything else I should be looking at?
The main receiver I've been looking at is the Onkyo 805, as it seems like I can find it at a reasonable price and has most if not all of the features I'm looking for now, and can expand with it in the future. The thing is, I know there are other good brands out there that might have similar products that I'm not aware of. Anyone feel like piping in and showing me some other options I may have?
Also, I really haven't even started to look for a 5.1 speaker set either. If someone can point me in the right direction that would be awesome. Again I don't want to break the bank, but I would love an awesome surround sound system. I've heard that it may go a long way to get two nice fronts and save up for a nice sub and some rears, aka don't get 5 cheaper speakers in a bundle.
Thanks in advance for all those who help!
