Timmy,

I am trying to guess some possibilities you might have and theefore not all answers below will completley apply. Do'nthe best I can with the info you provided

How are you turning the TV off ? It it is just the TV button then it shouldn't also turn of the Amp. If you have a progaraamble remote you need to reprogram.

Are you getting music from Sirius over DishNetwork or DirecTV? If so connect from the satellite to your receiver first and then the TV. Then you can listen to music from satellite without TV on.

If you have connected satellite to your TV first then connecting audio ouput of your receiver, then yes the TV must be on to hear music. Reconnect as mentioned above. Then you will be able to hear music without TV on!

If I didn't guess correctly, then me what you have and how it is connected exactly and I will try to give you a better answer. ;)

And lastly no prob for the question!

Good luck!

yeah sorry didnt even think to add any information whoops!
panasonic 37 in tv connected to denon amp via hdmi then my ps3 is connected to the amp via hdmi apart from my sub an optical, speaker cables and obviously the power cord this is all i have hooked up to my amp nothing else.
the problem is when im listening to music through the ps3 and dont want the tv on i cant just press the power button on the tv remote without it turning the amp off the ps3stays on though so i thought maybe its because the amp is connected via hdmi to the tv so when i power the tv off it powers the amp off but even with the ps3 switched off and the amp set to radio i have to have the tv on to keep the amp on which means i cant even have the radio going without the tv being on
thanks for the help by the way

That is unusually odd to ever happen. Personally I get the feeling the TV remote and the Denon remote use the same IR signature and the remote is powering them both off at the same time. Try blocking the remote port of the TV and turning on the receiver with the TV remote.

This is the only thing I can think of at the moment. If this is the case, the only solution I can come up with is a universal remote.

Try turning off the TV by it's own power button; don't use the remote.

Don't you realize that's going to require getting up!? What is this....a third world country?

This reminds me of the "HDMI Control" function, which is suppose to turn on & off other components that are hooked up to the main unit via HDMI.

Welcome to the 100% digial automated age!

I say go 100% analog!:eek::D

that must be what it is, turned it off at the tv itself the amp stayed on playing music  great how much will a decent universal remote set me back?
could be a good thing i get one though denon remote is crap the volume buttons get stuck in when you push em

Hmmm. If the TV and the receiver actually have the same IR code for their powers, then a universal remote isn't going to fix that (right?). It wouldn't matter which remote you used - the same code is still going to shut off both.

That just seems so odd to me that they would both have the same code. What TV do you have and which Denon do you have (it's probably listed in some other thread)?

Not sure that will solve your problem though. If the receiver and TV turn off because they share the same 'off' signal code, a universal will not help, or I am missing something here. A universal has to be programmed too, and if you use the same code for the TV and receiver, how would it help?

Is there any way of moving the receiver enough that it gets out of the beam pattern of the TV IR signal? May want to experiment by pointing the remote even further away from both component yet just barely in the TV's pattern? May need to mark some spots on the wall, if you find a spot where only one gets turned on. Bummer, if they both use the same code:(

URC RFS200 PowerPak Bundle w/ MasterControl RF20 and PowerBlaster

Well one of my ideas was right about the remote turning off mutiple devices

I just got the URC RFS200 PowerPak Bundle w/ MasterControl RF20 and PowerBlaster. It is an awesome remote ( very easy and accurate to program pre programmed modes, learning and macros) and it also adds RF capability ( meaning you can control devices through closed cabinet doors). It is about $80 delivered. (this is the first remote I have gotten that has truly allowed me to eliminate all of my other remotes: have BD, AVR and satellite programmed on it; very happy with it :)). Oh yes- I "punched through" the volume and mute, so that every screen controls the mute and volume on the AVR ; sweet !

Here is where you can find it from Amazon.com

Good Luck!
