I have a theater set up in my basement and whenever I turn up the volume a little the receiver kicks into OVERLOAD during intense action audio parts of the movie. It is not turned up that loud and in some cases it is hard to hear in normal audio moments of the movie (when I put it at a level that will keep it from overloading).

Can anyone help me understand what my problem might be?

Are you plugging everything into the same power outlet? mainly Receiver and Sub.

Usually an overload like this is because the receiver can't handle the load presented by your speakers. That may mean they are too low of an impedance for your receiver, or you have something configured incorrectly. There is a chance you have a short somewhere too. Without knowing what receiver and speakers you have and how you have them set up (large/small, x-over, etc...) it's practically impossible to help you.

Please verify all the connections at the receiver and the speakers. Make sure there are are no stray srtands of wire touching each other (+ and-) or the chasis of the receiver. Also verify that the receiver can handle the load presented by your speakers. :)
