Receiver info superimposed on TV Video (HDMI)?

Do any of the receivers superimpose the receiver front panel information on the TV screen over the top of the currently viewed video?
I called onecall and asked their "experts" if any of their AV receivers superimposed the basic receiver information on top of the currently watch TV video. Like volume, or the type of decoding thats used, basically any front panel info.

They said that all of the recievers only show setup info with OSD and dont provide for the superimposed info like a volume bar. They carry all the major lines like Pioneer Elite, Denon, Harmon Kardon, Onkyo, Marantz.

Some sales people at Ken Cranes told me the Denon and the Pioneer Elite do it. but when I asked them to demonstrate they could not get it to work.

Anyone have knowledge or experience otherwise to point me in a direction to find such a receiver if it exists.?

Thanks!

Some models do have an OSD display that shows volume. However, some models can only show the OSD display through certain video inputs/outputs. For example an onkyo might not show the OSD if you are using the HDMi output, but it will show the OSD through component or any of the analog outputs. You also usually have to turn the OSD on through the front panel menus. Check the specifications or feature web pages of the models you are considering and it should tell you if that model has OSD. The manual to that model will tell you how it is accessed, viewed, and turned on. Call the manufacturer to double check about the volume bar. I'm almost certain that Onkyo has that feature, but that changes from time to time. Hope this helps.

Also, for what it's worth, a year ago at CEDIA I met a fellow working a trade show booth who had been in the business for awhile and he claimed to be working with KenCrane to help with their marketing and employee training programs. We had one of those strange conversations that I just kept wanting to find a way out of, but was too polite to just cut him off and leave. He was so excited about his KenCrane projects and I felt bad that I had never heard of them (being from Ohio and all). To make a long story short, I left the booth feeling like there was a village somewhere out there that was missing its idiot, and I had just found him in this booth. If he really did do their training programs, watch out. He was a crack pot!

Ok.. thanks. thats a good answer. Its amazing to me that the superimposed feature is not pretty standard. I guess were are pretty early in the digital HDTV era. Im sure ther is no technical challenge. Must be an issue of standards on interfaces or something. The OSD im seen on these units is extremely crude. Reminds me of DOS based PCs. No doubt they could do eons better...not sure why they dont.

The newer Yamaha models with the GUI (graphical user interface) show lots of information including a volume bar and it is visible using any output.
