I just got my very own 56" JVC 1080p HDTV
and am now looking to upgrade my sound system now that I have a great new TV (old one was 8 year old CRT).
My existing specs are:
JVC RX-884 receiver
Infinity RS-525 fronts
Infinity center (don't know the model)
Infinity RS-3 rear surrounds
I am thinking of moving my receiver and main speakers into our bedroom and hook up to the TV there, so my wife can hear the TV and music better.
This also lets me get a new receiver and speakers, but that is only by accident, not design!
What would be some good options for receivers in the $1000 -$1500 range? My TV room is about 14x15-ish. I'll also be looking for new speakers (and a sub!)
And if I may ask a general question or two, is there a website somewhere (I looked here) that explains things like 4Ohm vs 8Ohm speakers (why they would be different and what the differences mean), and what are the +/- of getting dedicated amps to power speakers (cleaner signal, better efficiency, etc?) and when are they recommended (big rooms, need more power, etc..)
Just trying to learn as much as possible about my options so I keep as many open as possible.
