I am having a heck of a time trying to find an receiver that not only has upconversion but will output the upconversion to either the HDMI out or to the Compnent out. Can anyone give me some ideas on a receiver capable of this, in the $700 to $1,200 range? The reason this is a need for me is that I want to be able to output this signal to either my TV that has component but no HDMI and to my projector that does have HDMI. I was all set to purchase the Yamaha RX-V1800 until I found out that the upconverted signals could only be output through the HDMI. "Deal Breaker". the one unit I have found so far that comes right out and says that it can output to the compnent and HDMI was the ONKYO TX-SR705 at $899 SMRP. Any help on this would be great. The other solution could be finding a unit with two component outputs. It would be nice to only run an HDMI up to the projector but not totally necessary.

Thanks,

Nuc.

Look at Marantz 7002 or 8002

This is the upper limit of your price range. By your can get a 8002 from PriceGrabber.com at $1349. The low price is for new unopened Marantz AVrs. In contacting marantz, even though Hypatia Way is not an authorized Marantz online dealer Marrantz will provide full support and warranty.

The Onkyo TX-SR805 is also another good choice that will do up conversion and costs a low as $631.

Good Luck, ---- Go Marantz ;)

Do you mean upscaled, or upconverted? The RX-V1800 will output on component anything that it input at composite, s-video, and component, just look on page 23 of the owners manual. Not sure about being able to output onto component what has been scaled up to 720p/1080i/1080p.

First off thank you for your reply!

While I know you can't really create something from nothing when it comes to video. I guess I just want to know if I input a composite or svideo signal from something like an old dvd player. Can I still use the component video output, and will it output at say 720p by converting and smoothing and all that? Would that be considered Up-Scaling or Up-Converting?

Upscaling refers to taking a 480i/p image and outputting it as 720p/1080i/1080p. Upconverting refers to inputting something at composite or s-video and outputting it on component video or HDMI. Not really sure if the 1800 is able to output an upscaled image on component, or if it can only be output on HDMI. But I know for sure it can upconvert to component and HDMI. You could always call or email Yamaha to find out if it can output a scaled image on component, or browse through the owners manual to find out. You can download the owners manual online from the yamaha site which requires registration, or you can go to crutchfield.com
