I am looking for some advice about a receiver for my new home theatre. I currently have a Panasonic TH-50PZ850U plasma installed over my fireplace. I would like to run one hdmi port to my media tower as it is located a good distance from the tv (~30ft.). I am planning to purchase the Orb Audio Mod2 speakers, but am looking for a reasonably priced (< $1000) receiver to round out the setup. HDMI switching and port availability will be important so I don't have to run multiple 35ft. cables to the tv. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

You can find an HDMI receiver for about $300. That leaves you an extra $700 to put where it counts most, the speakers and sub.

Invest where electrical energy is converted into mechanical energy.

p.s. I use a Monoprice 35ft HDMI. About $40. Works perfectly fine in my multirow dedicated theater.

I agree. Get one of the following sub $500 receivers:

Yamaha 663
Pioneer 1018 (or newer model due soon)
HK 254
Denon 1909/789 (under $500 from 6th Avenue with 25% off coupon)
Onkyo 606

I own the same HDMI cable and the same length as Jostenmeat's. It works great.

I use the same cable too. Crazy. I also have a 35' Blue Jeans cable, their "high end" one. I don't use it at the moment.
