I know this probably has been answered a thousand times, but I just recently upgraded from Klipsch SF3 to the Def Tech BP7004 and the Def Tech CLR2300, my question is this, I have a very old Yamaha HTR(I know, not the best series), HTR-5590, this is one old receiver that I got for my birthday about 4 years ago, now that I have these new speakers I feel as if they need a little more of a receiver, do you think the 600 watts is enough for the type of speakers that I have or will I benefit from upgrading I am thinking about getting the Denon 3806 or the Yamaha HTR-5990, I don't really care for HDMI inputs, just want a nice receiver with calibration mic, etc. thank you in advance for your help and I apologize for the noobie question.

I doubt you need more power. Does it distort when you turn it up as loud as you want? If not, then it has enough power.

As for the automatic calibration, that is a good feature to have, but if you are very good at setting things up yourself, it is unnecessary. (Of course, most people are not very good at setting things up themselves....)

While I do not deny that the Yamaha HTR-5990 is better than what you have, I doubt that it would make much difference in actual performance, assuming that you are capable of doing a decent job of setting up what you already have. If you have money to burn, go ahead and buy a new receiver, but if you don't, you might be better advised to spend your money on other things (like more movies and music).

Or, you can wait for whatever the next generation receivers may have (like HD radio, the ability to decode the sound formats for the new high definition movie discs that will soon be available, etc.), and then buy a replacement. If it were me, I would stick with what you have for now. But it is your money, so feel free to do as you please (as if some random advice online would stop you).

thank you very much for your advice, I'll stick with it for right now, and no the sound doesn't distort when I turn it up, I just thought my receiver was outdated, but you make sense, also like you mentioned, I will happen to fall in those people not capable of setting the receiver up myself. plus I have a tricky room, and I am new to the whole Audio thing. thank you again for your time and advice.
