Good Day All

I have been lurking around the forum for a while now and have read almost all the reviews on the site and I must say they have been great reads and highly informative.

I am currenlty redesigning my HT room and am looking for some help in narrowing down my last two components.

My Current setup is as follows

Room Size 14 X 10

TV -- 37" Sharp Aquos LCD TV
Fronts -- Monitor Audio B2's
Center -- Monitor Audio B Center
Rears -- Monitor Audio BFX
Sub -- Velodyne DLS-3500R

The help I am seeking is in regards to A receiver and if at all possible a matching DVD player that supports +R media.

I am currently torn on receivers, I have been looking and listening to so many, but have narrowed it down to a few makes Marantz, NAD, Yamaha and Pioneer.

My price range for my receiver is around 1000. Mostly used for TV/Movies and Audio in the range of 60/40.

I am not too concerned with all the extra DSP modes but am looking to get the best bang for my buck as well as getting a great sounding receiver that matches or compliments the above speakers.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Austin

Generalities

That's about all I'm going to be able to provide. But they may help guide you in one direction or another. Keep in mind that what I say is simply my opinion, and others will doubtless disagree.

My personal favorites of the list you supplied would be Marantz and NAD. Yamaha is also pretty good. I avoid Pioneer like the plague.

To my ears Marantz has a very pleasing sound. They are known for a slightly "plumy" sound. Marantz gear is sometimes described as having some of the midrange and upper bass "bloom" and "warmth" of tubes, but without any loss of detail at the high end. I find it a very appealing sound.

NAD is very smooth; to some folks too smooth. However I detest the overly hyped high end of many other brands. To me the NAD has great appeal. It is often described as having "pace and rhythm" by the British magazines. To me NAD gear simply allows me to get into the music more readily. If you're looking for analytical "audiophile" sound, this may not be the brand for you. However, if you love music, then it may well be the best.

Yamaha is also well respected. To me the sound is slightly less appealing than NAD or Marantz, yet still very musical. Not overly bright or hyped. It may well be more "accurate" in reality... but I do prefer the Marantz or NAD sound.

Pioneer. Yuck! But that's just my personal opinion. Too bright. Too hyped. Too brash. No warmth. No "music", though plenty of "sound". Some folks like it, but not me. :(

So, don't know if that helps at all. It will depend on what you like in terms of music/movies, and what your tastes run to in terms of overall sound quality and presentation.

Thanks for the input......I am really just searching for a good match to the speakers i mentioned above. I am currently demoing the NAD 753. I have heard the Marantz quite a few times in store with the afore mentioned speakers.

I am also toying around with going the separates route via Outlaw 970/7075 Combo.

Yamaha RX-V1600

The new Yamaha makes a great receiver for $1K. It includes HDMI switching and its big brother, the RX-V2600 was voted receiver of the year by Audioholics.
