Hi,

I have an option of buying a previous year (but brand new) Yamaha HT 5790 for $450. I am also considering Onkyo 702, but its' @ $100 more. What would you go for? I do not need NetTune, but would like to have THX select feature. I am mostly listening to Classical music/rock and some movies.

Thanks!

Yammy's and Onkyo's are both good receivers....its preference really.....yamaha owners would prob. say, "go yammy"...whereas, Onkyo fans would prob. say, "go onk"....either way, I'd try to listen to both with the same setup if at all possible. I think you'll be pleased either way.:)

As someone who ones both a Yamaha (RX-V2500) and an Onkyo (TX-SR602, currently in its box in my closet waiting for me to do something with it after the higher end Yamaha replaced it) I say, definately spend some time with both of them if you can. They (Yamaha and Onkyo) have very different priorities that different types of users will appreciate, to put it simply. Both brands are fans of custom DSP modes, so also listen to those if you'll use them (I don't often).

www.jr.com has the 5890 for $499 if you include the $200 gift card. Problem is you have to spend the $200 at J&R.
