Receiver for Son's room

I'm buying a new receiver for my son's room, and need help deciding. I live overseas and am buying at my AAFES, so not a lot to choose from. He will be running Yamaha NS-555 fronts, Yamaha NS-C444 center, Yamaha NS-333 surrounds and backs, and an old Cerwin Vega sub. His room is about 10' X 15' and usually splits time between video games and movies. The two best receivers in my price range at the BX are a Pioneer VSX-LX50 for $600 and a Yamaha RX-V1700 for $597. I know I could get it cheaper on line but shipping is usually really high. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I vote for the Pioneer (it's equivelent to one of the Pioneer Elite models it appears). It's also likely newer than the Yamaha and has great features for the price.

I second the Pioneer. It has more capability. The LX50 actual looks like a version of the Elite line in the states. Something around the likes of the 90TXV or the 91TXV.

One of the Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo, or Pioneer receivers in the $2-300 range would be more than adequate for those speakers. The Yamaha you list is an older model, the current version are the RX-V1800 and RX-V863.

I think that for the price of the Yamaha 663 and a little extra shipping cost to an APO/FPO address would be worth the expense.
