Hi everyone!!!! First post here!! I posted this over in the Klipsch forum as well, but hoping to get some insight here as well!!

I have made my mind up on these speakers but would like to spend as little as possible on the receiver as I want to upgrade to separates in a few years. What receiver would be the best to power these speakers without have to worry about clipping as I have heard that although these are very efficient speakers the can dip into the 2 ohm ranges at times. Are there any that push down to 2-3 ohms better than others? Looking at receivers in the <$700 price range!! (street price)

Examples that I am thinkg of include:

Onkyo Tx-sr702
Denon AVR-2805
Pioneer 1015 (possibly)
H/K AVR 435

Others?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! I will be getting my speakers in a week or so and I want to order a receiver for the job!!! Thanks!! Chad

PS: some have said all these would work and that it will not be a problem, but then others say that I need extra juice to push the 2 ohm loads. Any calrification on this would also be welcomed!!

Thanks all for you time!!

How about a stereo receiver?
Are you only running two speakers?
If so, you can get plenty of power for that price.

I wish it was that simple. Unfortunately I will be using them in a 5.1 setup. I will be using the system for 75/20 for HT/music. Thanks for the input though!!

You can get much better receivers than those listed if you have $600-$700 to spend. Do some searches on yahoo.com, onecall.com, shopzilla.com, jr.com, ubid.com, dakmart.com in that price range and you'll be surprised what you can buy for that figure. Some of the high end Onkyo's with THX certification are steals right now. HK is powerful stuff, and the power is underrated, but they are pricey. jr.com usually has decent deals on them.

I really like the power the H/K has but the reliability issues concern me!! The 702 Onkyo can be had for quite a bit less than that!! I like the Denon 2805. What opinions would you have with a 2805 vs the H/k 630. I can get either of these for around the 650 mark. If possible, I would like to stay with a new product from an authorized dealer, for reliability's sake. Any other suggestions?!?! Thanks!! Chad

The 2805 is a nice unit if reliability concerns you. HK though has excellent service. Denon is local, and very accessable. Denon also owns Marantz. My vote for the money is still the Marantz SR8400, better than both the HK 630 and 2805. It's a $1300 receiver and will bid out under $600. Check out the specs... I bought my Denon at ubid.com and Denon honored the purchase immediately when I swapped my remote with Denon for the newer one. I also bought a subwoofer from ubid, and had an issue with the grill. The mfg. immediately shipped me a new grill the next day. If you are afraid from ordering online, then either the HK or the Denon will work for you. All sound about the same. I just like to get the most for my money.

I own the R-F7 5.1 setup and started with the Yamaha RX-V2400. It did a good job of driving the speakers and is a great match to the Klipsch. I have also used Marantz, Onkyo and Sony receivers and prefer the Yamaha first, followed by the Marantz.

You mentioned that you wanted to go to seperates in the future, and for that reason I am responding to your post. I have the same speakers and same goals. I started with the receiver intending to go to seperates. After ALOT!!! of research and listening, I decided on the Parasound Halo amps. I am using the A-21 for the fronts and plan to add the A-51 for the rest of the speakers in the future. What a difference this amplification has made. The RF-7's really come alive with the proper amp. I am using the Yammie as the processor/preamp and it will be the very last thing I upgrade as I feel it will be the least bang for the buck move. The A-21 at 250 wpc is an excellent match for the RF-7s and they really benefit from the control that only a seperate amp can provide.

So my recomendation would be a Yamaha to start out with and you MUST audition the Parasoun Halo when it is upgrade time. Try AudiogoN for a good used receiver.

Good luck and enjoy those Klipsch!

I vote for the HK, they make a great match with Klipsch. If you go to the Klipsch board you will hear others that will second that. I have a friend with a similar setup using a HK 7200 matched with his Klipsch (not sure which models he has) and it sounds great with both music and movies.

Thanks everyone for their input!!

Loudandhard: I am looking into the yammy a little more. Do you know if the HTR-5890 is comparable to the 2400/2500? I know that series is ususally not sold on the internet whereas the 5890 I can get for a very reasonable price online!! Thanks!! Chad

A couple of links to used Yamahas on AudiogoN:

Could not tell you how the two lines of receivers compare, but here is a partial quote and a link to Yamaha's answer to that question....

"......The RX-V line is typically sold through Yamaha authorized audio/video specialty retailers, and is not available for mail order sales, phone sales, or internet sales.

The HTR line is sold through mass merchants, catalog retailers, and department stores. You may also purchase the HTR line through the mail, by phone, or at authorized internet retailers......."

Seems to be more marketing than anything else.

Good luck.
