receiver for bose speakers

I am a newbie, so please bear with me.

In my house I have pre-installed speakers and I want to buy receiver and subwoofer (and maybe amplifiers). I have five bose jewel cube speakers in my basement and additional two bose ceiling speakers in the first floor. I have also several other speakers (not bose) throughout the house. But I guess I just want to figure out how to use the bose speakers, first.

I think I need a 7 channel receiver, a subwoofer and possibly amplifiers for the speakers on the ceiling. I want a mid-level system so i was looking at reviews and like the Sony STRDN1030 and polk audio PSW10 subwoofer. My question is are these parts compatible with bose speakers or do you have other suggestions both for receiver and subwoofer? also if i need amplifiers, what kind should i get?

I want to spend around $800 and would prefer a receiver that has wifi.

Thank you all!

You definitely don't need any additional amplification for those tiny cubes because they can't handle it. The problem with the Bose speakers is, ideally you need the bass module to use them properly because the crossover is in the bass module. You CAN hook them to a receiver, however you will need to run a very high crossover (120Hz minimum) and will want a sub that can handle a higher crossover as well.

Forget that Polk sub, period; there are at least 3-4 threads on inexpensive subs to get instead and today is probably the best shot you've got at a $100-200 sub. The Sub1200 and Sub1000 at Parts Express: the #1 source for audio, video & speaker building components are still available.

The Bose speakers, should really be mated to the Bose bass module,
that it was designed with. However >>>

If you are really going to use those little twinkle sounding speakers,
then you need a subwoofer that can play up to 250 hz, and a receiver
that will allow you to crossover to the sub higher than 200 hz. Those
twinkle little speakers play to around 220 hz -

Are you sure that you do not want to sell them twinkle little speakers,
and then buy something else, that will go down lower?

Quality wise, I more than likely would say go with that Polk sub. How-
it only plays up to 200hz.

Most receivers I've seen don't have a crossover as high as 200Hz.

I don't think I would have bought bose, but the previous owner of the house have the speakers installed on the walls and the ceiling. So I don't think I can have the speakers removed, dont want to deal with the holes in the walls.

So i need to buy a receiver and a subwoofer that have a frequency over 200Hz. I'll check Denon models to find out a receiver, any other suggestions?

Also the 6th and 7th speakers are not bose jewels, they are big speakers installed in the ceiling, I think they might need amplifiers since there are cables for those speakers with stickers on it saying it goes to amplifier. will there be any specific amplifier for bose speakers?

Thanks again!

The fact that it says "amplifier" doesn't mean much. It could be hooked to a separate amplifier as another zone (which doesn't make sense with them in the same room), or it could be connected directly to your receiver either as a zone or as surrounds, etc...

Beno- No No No No No.....I would rather drywall an entire room than leave the Bose up. My wife and I got duped about 7 years ago, and from the minute we got home they sucked, and sucked bad. I would take them down, put plates up if you do not want to drywall, and start over. Even a free Bose system is worth nothing. As you can tell, I hate Bose, and not bc it's cool to do so, because they took 2k from me, and I didn't get 2 cents worth of sound. Give them to someone you dislike and call it good.

I'm done now, sorry. Maybe I need a Snickers, i do get grumpy when i'm hungry!
