Receiver/DVR/TV connection

I have a Yahmaha RX-V2500 and just got a Pioneer 5070HD Plasma TV. My question is what is the best way to connect the TV to maintain the best picture possible.
We have a cable box (just replaced it with a new HD box) and a Tivo DVR. I don't like what the Tivo does to the picture quality, it was tolerable with our old TV but I don't think it will be with the new one.
Can I split the cale signal coming out of the cable box and feed the TV and Tivo DVR seperately? Not sure what cables to use either
Kinda lost, any help is appreciated

Does the HD box have an HDMI output? If so you should run HDMI direct to the plasma TV and run the TiVO signal through the receiver. Assuming the receiver does not have HDMI. Or run component video from the HD source, S-video from the TiVO through the Receiver and output component video from the receiver to the TV. I believe that receiver has component video upconversion.

I too have a TiVO. When output to my old TV it looked OK but when output to the 100" HD projector all of the flaws formerly unseen are now amplified. I can't wait until all broadcast is forced to be at least 720p.
