Receiver/DVR/TV connection

I have a Yahmaha RX-V2500 and just got a Pioneer 5070HD Plasma TV. My question is what is the best way to connect the TV to maintain the best picture possible.
We have a cable box (just replaced it with a new HD box) and a Tivo DVR. I don't like what the Tivo does to the picture quality, it was tolerable with our old TV but I don't think it will be with the new one.
Can I split the cale signal coming out of the cable box and feed the TV and Tivo DVR seperately? Not sure what cables to use either
Kinda lost, any help is appreciated

It's considered good etiquette to post a thread in only one forum. That being said I don't anything meaningful to answer your question, but I am sure those who do will chime in. Welcome to the Forum Seven.

First, you don't need to connect the TV using the RF cable that comes from the cable wall plate. You want to use the highest quality video format supported by both the receiver and the TV and that is likely going to be component video.

You can split the cable from the wall with a 1 to 2 splitter and feed the cable box and tivo separately but that way you won't be able to record any channels that must be decoded by the cable box. You will have to go from the wall plate to the cable box 'rf in' and then from the cable box 'rf out' to the tivo. Now you have the cable signal going to both the cable box and the Tivo.

Now to get the signal to the TV:
- The back of the receiver has multiple component video inputs and one component video output.
- Component video cables from cable box to component video 1 on the receiver.
- Component video cables from Tivo to component video 2 on the receiver.
- Component video cables from the component video out on the receiver to the TV.

You then have to 'assign' the component video inputs on the receiver to one of the source selectors; eg., assign component video 1 input to Video1 and component video input 2 to Video2. Now you press Video1 to view the cable box and Video2 to view the Tivo.

The cable box has multiple outputs use the DVI or HDMI connect direct to TV and use the second output to Tivo then the output of Tivo to TV's other input this way you have best picture and recording at the same time. Cheers.
