Receiver component inputs all the same input quality ?

Hi,
I would like to know if all the inputs are the same on a receiver for component inputs like CD / Tape / Aux / DVD. I like CD players and have 5 I want to use on my receiver, so does the sound output quality suffer if I use a CD player on a tap input or other than the CD input ? Thanks,

As long as you don't use a phono input you will be fine. The phono input is high sensitivity with RIAA equalization.

The quality of all the inputs are same. No receiver manufacturer would produce a unit with different quality standards among its inputs. As TLSguy mentioned..the phono input cannot be used as its specifically designed to receive input from cartridges used on turntables.

What receiver do you have? If it's old or one of the models that came out after phono inputs were re-introduced, it may be a typical input circuit, which would require a separate phono preamp in order to play vinyl records.

Make sure the source OUTput connects to the named INput. I have actually seen equipment connected by installers who thought Output connects to Output and Input connects to Input. However, as the others mentioned, you can't connect anything other than a turntable with a magnetic phono cartridge to the Phono jacks. It will sound loud and muffled/distorted and very bassy.

Component inputs usually refer to the three color analog rca video connectors, fwiw.

Other than the mentioned phono type inputs, some receivers have multich inputs that bypass processing in the avr, using the avr simply as amp, so those could be thought of as different, too.

Liking cd players to the point of having five of them.....now that sounds a bit odd
