I was hoping that could get some help choosing an A/V receiver that has the most bang for the buck.

The components I have now are as followed:
Sony KE-42TS2U plasma
B&W 602’s Book shelves
B&W cc 652 centre channels
Rotel RCC-945 CD player
DVD player to be purchased

My plan is to eventually buy 603's for my fronts and put the 602's in the rear. Also get the DS6 wall speakers.

I also need to hook up 3 satellite receivers; my I pod and may old VCR.

The room I'm doing is in the basement and is roughly 15' x 20' with 7' ceiling.

So far this is what I priced out:
NAD T773 $1699.
Denon AVR-3806 - $1499
Denon AVR-4306 - $2499
Yamaha RXV 2700B - $1899
Integra DTR-6.6 - $1500

So far I fell the NAD is the best deal but I also realize that it lacks in video features.

My budget is $2000 CAN.

Any advice or tips will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advace,

Try looking at Rotel

Hi Mark,

You have some really good speakers in your system. I have a pair of B&W 802s as my fronts and recently was looking for a non-seperates audio center. After many days of A-B testing and even A-B-C testing with my system, I ended back at the Rotel (RSX-1067) for the simple reason that their power supply and damping factor blows away pretty much any other reciever out there (Denon, Yamaha,Pioneer). Now , I admit, it doesn't come with all the frills and smoke of the others, but it has HDMI, toslink, and pretty much everything that you will need except save, an iPod hook-up. For the price, I don't think you can go wrong. Keep an eye out on Audiogon for a good deal.

All the best,

Wayne

Rotel

I priced the Rotel 1067 @ $3500 CDN. They said they could do better if i came in but thats about $1500 out of budget. How much did you get yours for?

Rotel RSX 1057

You can add the Rotel RSX 1057 to the mix. I can get it on sale for $1500 CDN.
What do you guy's think?

Good choice the Rotel RSX-1057. It's a conservative 70 watt receiver and will easily push your B&Ws ( because of the oversized transformer and capacitors). Go and listen to it set up with as close a speaker match to yours as you can get, see what you think, that ultimately is the true test. If they have any of the other receivers there also, ask them to demo them against the Rotel, don't forget that they are there to help you and should not complain about doing some hooking up for you.

Speakers

Right now I have not spent enough on the speakers but eventually the 602's will be my rear speakers and I will be getting B&W fronts. 603's, 604's or maybe 700 or 800 series. I'm not going to buy the front speaker until I finish my basement and i have a better idea of the set up. The reason for the purchase of the receiver now is because all the composite inputs on my TV don't work. To fix the TV it would cost me about $700 to $800. I'd rather spend that money on a receiver and just run one wire to the TV and have the receiver do the switching.

There is a method to my madness!

Rotel, like NAD, tend to have beefy power supplies but their amp section specs don't look as great. So they offer superior all channel driven power ratings but not so impressive 2 channel ratings. If you think you will end up with the 800 series B&W in the near future, you may want to stay away from that 38 lb baby Rotel receiver. The 1067 will do the job but for C$3,500 you may be better off with the Denon AVR 3806 or Yamaha RX-V2700 plus a decent 3X200W power amplifier for the same or less money. The 3806 or the 2700 should have enough power to take care of the surround channels. In fact, either one can do a good job on your 600 series B&W for now. You only need to add the 3 channel amp when you move up to the 800 series.

I thought the 802s need amps like Bryston (14B minimum), Krell, and Classe that boost at least 300 WPC. I doubt the 120W Rotel can do them justice.

Marantz 8001

Yesterday I went and took a look at the Marantz 8001 receiver. Looks good, has a Toroidal power transformer but the video switching is better than the Nad T773. The place where a looked at the Marantz would not agree to me bring my 602's in to listem to them and they do not have a return policy. The price they quoted me was $1800.
I think I narrowed my picks to the Nad or Marantz but I was hoping someone out there could help me seal the deal.

Thanks

I went with the 773, It might be your best choice for your budget. It is a wonderful receiver for under $2k range.

I paid one thousand for a Denon 3806, though I think the 2807 is the better deal unless the 3806 has some particular you want. The will not sound any different. If you want a manual that is not obtuse, a Yamaha is a better choice. In general I think it's a coin flip between Yamahas and Denons.

I don't see any HDMI on the 773. Does that matter for you?

Shoot,my 2805 works fine with my 603's so a 2807 would be great.
