I have just purchased the following speaker set. PSB image 6T fronts, 9C center,. 10S surr and Sunfire true Jr. sub. Good friend is a dealer , hence great price. The receivers are narrowed down to Yamaha 2400, Onkyo 801r , Sony STR 3000 ES, ( Denon 3803 and NAD also considered). I am purchasing a Sony Rear proj. and the new ES series is being carried more , but have'nt seen any reviews. For between $ 800 - 1000 there are so many choices. My last receiver was pioneer SX - 40 ( YES, i am over 40 yrs old ) so I'm a kid in the candy store. Any sugg. Looking at ten NAD 763 , can't justify the xtra $400.00 .. spent enuff on the speakers Thanks ,

easy choice: Yamaha 2400 or Denon 3803.

In your case, 80%HT, either one would be fine. But personally I prefer Yamaha sound over Denon. I have 1400 and LOVE it!

I have been jumping between the different topics/discuss. and the other topic broght up often is warranty (online or auth dealer). The Sony 3000 ES surprisingly comes with a 5 yr warranty.(I think all ES componenst have the warr.) I am leaning towards the Yam. 2400 with the Onkyo 801R close second.. Denon 3803 is right there, but does not have that Lucas (THX) stamp and the new 3805 is out ( doesn't have THX cert on website). I have read that the manufac. has to pay fot the THX stamp. I am assuming Denon figures Lucas doesn't need anymore cash. The downside to purchasing online is if it is returned one might be w/o the receiver for who knows how long...

The inclusion or absence of a THX logo should not be factored into your decission process. THX is just another DSP mode. At this price point (~1k), you should only worry about features, connectivity, and the user interface.

good luck!

You could stamp one rotten potato with THX, and the other without. They are both going to smell the same, horrible. Just because one receiver or amplifier is THX certified and another isn't, does not mean one is better than the other. It just means one company chose to pay for THX certification and the other did not. The non certified piece could out possibly out perform it.

I've pulled the triggger on the NAD 763. I listened and re-listened. Not every listening room is the same and I wish I could have set up my speakers with all those fine receicers on the mkt. (Yam. 2400 and Denon 3803 were 2nd and 3rd.) Denon are sold with Paradigm (another excellent Canadian speaker Co.) quite often and are a great match..But when you listen to the submarine movie "U-571" and the couch is shaking.. and my 13 yr old turns and says "Dad, I don't care how small the TV you get is , but get this setup" ... that sold me. Plus I figure when I'm crankin' AC/DC, V Halen, Metallica, Zepp and other heavy metal , I can't see those Cd's pushing the levels (of drivers, distortion ) like those thunderous depth charges going off in that movie ..Whew!!
PS.
Good to see someone hooked up their NAD with Paradigms in another forum. So Boone , there are a few more NAD owners out there !!! Thx Tom B.
