I am finally updating my home theater after many years. Was very pleasantly surprised at all the new features like HDMI inputs for all components, ethernet inputs etc. I have not ordered my equipment yet. Plan to do that in the next few days after I get some education.

Question: The components I've selected, Oppo BDP-93 Blu-Ray and Onkyo TX-NR808 receiver, both have WiFi available. My router only has one input left. I really don't want to have to buy a new router too. Does anyone know if I can just run one connect out of that available port on the router into a switch and then plug both units into that switch?

Thanks in advance for your help

Yes, you can use switch and connect more equipment.

Both Oppo BDP-93 Blu-Ray and Onkyo TX-NR808 support wired connectivity.
Oppo BDP-93 is optional to support wireless network or Wifi.

Depends on how you want to connect both pieces different ways would be needed to go by.

If you want to connect both wired - you need a network switch as highfigh mentioned, not a router.
If you want to connect oppo wirelessly and your router doesn't support wifi - you need to buy wifi access point

Thank you for your quick responses.

BoredSysAdmin,
Forgive my ignorance in this but I don't know much about "WiFi." I assumed that's what I currently have (I just recently set it up with some help). My high speed internet cable goes directly into the router. Then my computer, telephone (Ooma) and SONOS wireless radio all plug into the router. Isn't that WiFi?

If so, what I was going to do with that last open port on the router is run one ethernet cable across the room to the Home Theater Equip., add a switch, then plug the TV (also has an ethernet port), Oppo and Onkyo into the switch.

Does that help in understanding what I want to do? I really don't care if it's wireless or wired as long as i can get them all connected to the net for streaming movies and internet radio, automatic firmware downloads from the mfg. etc.

Yes, that's exactly what you want to do.

That will work fine, but, Imo better idea is to get 8 port 1000 Mpbs switch - from dlink for example - cost $30-40
Cable modem to router. A Single cable from router to switch.
Connect everything else you have on the home network to the switch, instead of router.

p.s:
WiFi is Wireless ONLY networking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi)
Wired networking is not WiFi.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll go with your suggestion, Bored. Just ordered the d-link switch and cable from Amazon.
