How bad is it goin to be if my rear surrounds for my 7.1 system is in the ceiling right over the sofa? Thats pretty much the only play they can go. Also my 2 side speakers, one can go directly to the side of the seating area, but the other is gonna have to be a little bit forward. Is that going to make a difference?

Thanks,

Billy

Or would a pair of Bi-pole surrounds on ceiling mount brackets work better?

I use 5.1 because my room isn't big enough for 7.1 and since I'm still watching plain ole DVD's, almost everything I come across is in Dolby Digital 5.1. I would not even consider an over head ceiling rear surround option.

The surrounds being for effects only makes them kind of forgiving in the placement department. Besides, you can only put them where you can put them, right?

I don't know much about Bi-poles, so I can't speak on that.

Thanks for the info Alex. I realize now I really should have thought this whole thing out alot better before I finished the basement and started buying equipment. Since I haven't bought and installed the ceiling mount speakers yet, would it work to by in-wall speakers and mount them in the wall behind the sofa, or is that going to be to close? I bought a 7.1 receiver already, and was hoping to utilize the whole thing.

So here's what I've got so far:

Epson home cinema 1080p projector
Elite 106" fixed screen
Onkyo TX-SR705
Infinity Beta 40's
Infinity Beta C360 CH
Infinity Beta 20's
Infinity SW-12 CH Sub

Any ideas would help.

Is your couch right against the wall? Can you move it up at all? It helps with the audio even if you don't use 7.1.

Check out the Audioholics site. A/V University, Tips and Tweaks and the stickies heading off the forums will answer a lot of your questions, make you aware of things that you hadn't even wondered about and raise questions you didn't know you had. Use the search tool also.

Most if not all current rec'r do 7.1. If the room isn't big enough for 7.1 then that's that as far as I'm concerned. You have some nice stuff and I think you're gonna enjoy it. Then you're gonna move it and enjoy it some more. That's how it's worked out for me so far. :)
