Hi again. Just bought a Yamaha HTR-5990. Must say, I am very impressed for what I thought might not sound very good for a mass-market product. But, it's super for me. Anyway -- my question--

I am running 5.1 setup. I have Polk FXi5 rears ("surround back") attached. When I watch movies that have rear sounds, the sounds appear to be minimal from the rear speakers. Could I have a setting(s) wrong on my receiver? Currently, front, center, and rears are set to "small". I am using a Polk PSW 505 subwoofer. I realize the rear are mainly for peripheral sounds, but I thought I would hear more out of them.

Also, my subwoofer has an unfiltered and a filtered input for my RCA cable. Which should I use?

Regarding the surround speakers, don't use the "surround back" outputs. Just use the normal "Surround L" and "Surround R" outputs.

JAX....that fixed it. thanks for the help. i guess the "surround backs" don't get a signal from various DVD's and/or that signal contains "weaker" effect sounds than the regular "surround" channel puts out.

Without surround backs.

Make sure you re-run the auto calibration or manually set the surround back speakers to off so you don't loose any info from 6.1 soundtracks.
