Rear speaker positions ...

Hey guys ..
We're building our house at the moment and the living room will be as per attached plan ... The 'L' shaped seating arrangement must be as is so I'm not sure where to mount the rear speakers of a 5.1 system ... Have I the options of the beams or rear wall ??
The boss does not want them on stands as there will be some traffic thru the room and all cables must be hidden ...
Any advise ?
Thanks in advance ...

The corner of that L shaped sofa would be the so-called 'ideal listening position' because sitting there would put you directly in front of the TV. That is the position you want to use to line up the surround speakers. People seated in other positions on the couch won't be in an ideal spot because eg. sitting on the right would place the right surround very close to you while the left would be much further away; likewise for the other end of the couch.

I think if you can place them on the walls directly to the left and right of the sofa (a few feet above ear level) and maybe use dipoles for a diffuse sound field it will probably work out ok.

I was going to say the same thing.

Mount one on the end of the sidewall before the spot where the bay window begins, and place the other directly accross on the other sidewall. That should work pretty well.

Hi guys ... I've been away for a week so sorry about late reply ... I'm a bit green to to this whole area so could you tell me what 'using dipholes for a diffuse sound field' means ...
Would mounting the rear speakers on the beams as shown be too high ??
I may be allowed to move the couch sligthly !!
Thanks again ...
