Rear Speaker Placement issues

I have no way to put surround speakers on the sides of my room. So im forced to put the speakers on the back wall which i can put at the right hight and distance compared to listing position talked about in articles ive read on this site. My question is this. I decided to use Paradigm ADP 470 dipole speakers to try to add as much soundfield dispersion as possible. How should i mount these on the back wall. I know they come with standard mounting brackets for a flush wall mount but, would it be better for me to buy brackets that I can angle toward each other or more toward listner. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

If you cannot set them on the sides, imho the next best option is to set them in the corners angled outwards. The next best option would be to set them on the back wall away from a corner (to minimize reflection), as the adp's are multidirectional. Hope that helps.

Hello,

Depending on your room layout and how far back the wall is from the primary listening position you may be better off with a direct radiator speakers placed on the back wall at appx. the same width as the front mains. Dipole’s on the back wall can be too diffuse in a 5.1 system. Aggressive soundtracks with discrete rear surround content will sound better with a direct radiator approach. DVD-A and SACD will also benefit from this type of installation. Placement of a direct radiator depending on the distance to the back wall and vertical dispersion characteristics of the speaker should be appx. 12”-18" above the seated ear level. If you post a diagram of your room including exact room dimensions and seated listening position we may be able to provide you with more information

Surround Placement

Here is my living room. I have decided to go with 7.1 and have plenty of room from back wall to couch for rears. I have two questions 1st one is im thinking of putting my ADP-470 on the marked red boxes from what ive read height wise they will be 2 feet or so above ears at listening position. but one of them will be a little farther to the left than the other one. Is this a major problem as i have no way to correct it. Second My setup is this paradigms 20.V3 ADP 470 CC470 but i need two speakers for my rears besides another pair of 20's what other paradigm speakers can i go with. I read an article that preferred dipole firing speakers in the rears as compared to the sides and then putting the direct radiating speakers on the side. Heres my room and speaker layout posistion. Would this option be better for me or should i go with dipoles on sides. I have the Front left and right and center channel on entertainment center at the exact same height according to dolby layout i can point them more inward but cant really move them anymore than that. Heres my room picture anyhelp will be appreciated. the pics are the following attachments

Sure you do - the speaker distance setting in the receiver's setup menu. Even if you could get them exactly equidistant from the ideal listening position (probably center of the couch), listeners on either side of center will be at different distances from the speakers anyway. Set the distance to each speaker relative to the primary listening position.
