Rear Speaker Output

I installed a Harman Kardon AVR 235 to an older Denon DCM 550 CD Player using a Digital Coax Cable and to a JVC XV-565 DVD Player using an optical connection. The speaker configuration is 5.1 using Polk RM6800.

During the test tone I get sound from all speakers (front, center, rear). However, when playing a CD or DVD I only get sound from the front channel, Center and Sub, no sound from the rear speakers.

Any suggestions,

Thanks,

Firstly, must ask, did you level match all channels when you did the test tones?

Second, you may need to place the receiver into prologic for CDs, and may need to set up the DVD player as well to output DD and the receiver as well if it doesn't have auto detect mode?
