Rear Projection DLP VS. LCOS

I am looking to buy a HDTV within the next month. I have been researching all the different technologies over the last year or so and have narrowed my search down to a rear project set due to image quality and prices. I dont care about flat screen or 1080p because I do not want to pay to have my set 4 inches deep or nor do I believe 1080p is all it is cracked up to be.

My budget it around $3,000. And I want rear projection. I like the image quality on LCOS and DLP and really cannot decide between two models. I have always liked JVC's sets and have some "brand loyalty" towards them but the samsung sets are priced in thier league and have same if not better image quality.

Which set would be best for me the Samsung HL-R5667W 56" DLP TV or the JVC HD-56BP6 RPTV?

I have heard good things about both sets. I have read reviews in several magazines about the JVC set and all of them say same it is a great buy and have read lots of consumer reviews on the Samsung set and also read good things. The only thing consumer reviews wise on the JVC set says people have issues with build quality. I have seen both sets in person and the JVC looks awesome but the Samsung does to. I own lots of DVD's and have digital cable and will be upgrading to thier HD cable features.

Just want to know from you guys which set or if any others I should choose.

Thanks in advance.

I also have always been "brand loyal" to JVC also, but in my research over the last couple of months, I decided to stay away from their HD-ILA. They have a really nice PQ, but from everything I have read, they have some serious build quality issues. I decided that was not the best for me.

If you have it narrowed down to just those 2, I would probably go with the Samsung. I personally almost bought that model, but I really liked the PQ of the RP-LCD better. (That is just my personal preference)

I wound up with a Mitsubishi after a couple months of research. That is what I liked the best, but everyone's eyes are different.

I assume you watch a lot of sports or do some gaming if you are looking at just those 2 technologies(DLP & LCOS). I would not be afraid to look at LCD though. Just make sure you look at the refresh rate of these(the higher the better). Probably 50% of my television watching is done watching fast action sports and that is what I wound up with. I am still setting mine up, but I do love the PQ. I wasn't even considering these at first, but in my opinion they look the best.

My opinions: DLP - Go with the Samsung. LCOS - Look at the Sony SXRD (more exensive but awesom). LCD - Mitsubishi WD-52528

That is right, they have had problems with the HD-ILA from JVC, but its getting better, but picture quality on non HD channels is better on DLP and there has been a "bowing" effect on the non HD channels also. I would definitely stick with DLP.

LCD rear projection is good, but the contrast is not as good, and the colors, as bright as they may be, will not be as detailed as the DLP. The DLP can produce more shades of the same color, which means more detail, but each eye has different preferences. But as far as technically speaking, the DLP is a better choice over LCD RP.
