Rear Channels Go Dead??

I was watching the new movie "2012" this evening and everything was going great! I had the master volume on my Denon AVR889 at -5db for the whole movie. Sounded incredible!

The weird thing though was that i noticed after the movie if i put the master volume at -5.5db or -6db my 2 rear channels go mute. If i decrease or even increase the volume they come back on. It is ONLY at those two volume settings that they go "dead".

I cannot figure out why this happened! Have i "fried" those two settings by running the movie at -5db?

My understanding from a little reading online was that if i run my 6 point Audyssey calibration & leave the settings, i should be able to turn the master volume all the way up to 0db without running the risk of either overdriving my speakers or pushing my reciever into clipping. Am i wrong??...I did change the speakers from large down to small & crossover at 60hz, but that should help even more with risking damage.

Any input on what may be wrong or what i should do would be greatly appreciated!!!
