Well my father in law is letting us have his old 2ch gear as well as his vinyl collection. The integrated is a Vector Research VR-7000 and the turntable we don't know yet as her dad has to pick it up from storage as well as his LPs. I will be posting some pics of the amp as well as internals when my wife picks it up on thursday when I am blowing out the insides. Now this stuff is around 25 years old and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the vector stuff. This is what it looks like:

No, not specifically but I think I remember them. This looks in good shape and if it works, should be a good one. Certainly the price may have been right, free:D

Do you have a specific question on this?

I remember the product line, was pretty low end in its day, might be ok to listen to in a spare system, resale will be very little on the product line.

Well since I was looking to set up a 2ch system for our home office I was wondering if this would be ok to power the speakers I am thinking of. I have narrowed down the speakers to some 4ohm totems and I am getting the chance to do an in home audition of a pair of BG Z-1. The totem dealer has said that he will let me borrow a pair to audition in my home when I have the BG. I just need a 2ch integrated to power them. I really like the Rega Brio 3 but it is out of my price range and was wondering if I could power the speakers with the Vector. I guess I am kind of afraid to hook some brand new speakers to it lol.

The Vector should drive 4-ohm speakers with no problem, they were OK units in their day. One thing I would do, and I do this with all vintage solid-state amplifiers I drag home from thrifts/yard sales/the curb/whatever is to set my DMM (digital multimeter) to DC Volts, turn the volume off, make sure the speaker switch is on, and measure across the + and - speaker terminals for each channel to check for DC offset. It should be no more than 500mV at absolute worst, and ideally should be under 200mV (closer to 0 the better.) If there is little to no DC at the speaker terminals, you're safe to proceed to the step of listening to the unit and testing for scratchy pots/switches/etc.

Vector Research was an almost-sister-company of NAD back in the day, IIRC...
