Hey all. Im really into metal music, and love it when bands throw heavy bass drops into their music. I always try to increase those parts by raising up the 31hz level on my soundcard (auzentech x-fi prelude) but it never sounds too good. Music sounds better when i play it through my dvd player set up to my receiver. I then raise my sub level on the receiver and my sub. My theater setup is an Onkyo SP904. Googling it will give results. What im mostly interested in is a perticular song...Almost Again by Strapping Young Lad on the album The New Black. If somebody could listen to this on their system and tell me if they get a funny sound when listening to certain parts where the bass is insanely low im assuming. I would so love to be able to reproduce that sound, it kicks the crap out of my sub now. Other bands worth listening to for bass is The Devil Wears Prada - Plagues, Job for a Cowboy - Doom, Devin Townsend - Devlab, Strapping Young Lad - Alien, Strapping Young Lad - The New Black. Thanks. I wanna be able to reproduce these sounds distortion free, really powerful, so powerful the bass shock will put my unconscious :D

if your subwoofer can't handle what you want to listen to, get a new better one. what is your current subwoofer?

agreed try and get the frequency response graphs for your equipment to see where the roll of is, also check to see if you have the right cross over set and the bass gain.

It likely dose not sound good because the subwoofer is exceeding its capabilities.

You 'gunna need a goooood subwoofer to do what you want. I found that song online, and played it with a spectrum analyzer monitoring what was going through my sound card: there are three times when there is brief high level energy at 27Hz, then at the end of the song, for a longer amount of time, there is a large amount of energy at 36Hz.

No, LOL. I was looking at the waterfall for batman begins - there is a passage with 2Hz in it! Incredibles has a scene with 5Hz. I know, not music, but still... I have some electronic music that easily has stuff down into the mid to low 20s.

Nod. Dubstep comes to mind. For a lot of songs you basically need a subwoofer just to get the rhythm of it.

Wikipedia has a sample for those interested:

Skream "Rutten" (note: Dubstep takes some time to get into, so, expect to go "wtf")

Much love to dubstep.

Christine Vaccine is a good way to get into the dubby stuff....

Download "Medicate with Bass Weight" mix (right click, save as) ... and also click the album with the blue powder on it and download that as well, available in both 320Kbps CD and mix form. All compeletly legal downloads, btw. And no, I don't promote for her, just like to spread the tunage ;)

And that is exactly why your having an issue with your system producing quality bass I'll bet.... The 10" Subwoofer that comes with that "HTIB" is probably not capable of keeping things together at higher volumes, much less digging all that deep. Now if you have a look around, you can see where some people that truly love movies and music spend the exorbitant amount of money they do on equipment to reach that extremely high performance out of everything they listen to. You can expect that the HTIB will provide sound but have and reach its limitations quite quickly.

What is your room size that you are playing your heavy metal in partner...
How loud are you looking to get? Upgrading your equipment is expensive but rewarding....
