Real Estate Listings

Why do some real estate listings refuse to list the address of the property? Make my life easier, I don't care if it's a mansion clad in travertine and gold, I will not buy it if it's somewhere I don't want to live!

Then, you call them and they want to discuss every property they have. Finally, once you get to the one you're asking about, you find out it's literally on the worst possible block of the worst possible neighborhood of the city you're looking in! So of course, they bait and switch, offering you a smaller, older, run down flophouse, in the area you want, for TRIPLE the price!

*sigh* And all that time could have been saved by them simply putting the address on the listing...

I prefer fake estate listings myself.

But I won't buy a house that doesn't say where it's at.

You answered your question with the first sentence in the second paragraph. They sell a lot more houses if they talk to people. If everyone could just do a drive-by and write them off.

Why not find the neighborhood you want and buy the worst house there? That way, you should be able to save money on it because of its condition and make it into what you want it to be.

Real Estate agents are getting killed in this economy, they need to try and do everything they can to maximize what little sales they have.

An easy way to beat this is to look up the various RMLS type Internet listing services. They'll give you the address. Secondly, do as HighFiigh says drive and the neighborhood you have targeted. Right now you should have some definite choices.

Yeah, you're all right. I try doing that, but sometimes the houses don't even have signs on them. It's weird.

Also, I'm a lot easier to please than the woman. Nothing escapes her scrutiny, which is great for me since I just have to deal with the money matters.

I spent about a year house hunting before we found our house. 95% of the major websites will not give you the address. The reason is very simple, they want you to call them.

There are a few (handfull really) that provide street addresses. At the end of the day if you have a good agent, they will send you the full MLS listing which will have all the info you really need like the address and tax info. Then you can google map it to see if the house is not next to a nuclear reactor or a warehouse.

Nothing new here, they have been doing this for a long time.

Considering land is hard to come by in many areas, this is a very good approach. You end up with what you want where you want.

Hi Nemo,
The biggest reason is that the buyer and seller can circumvent the real-estate agent that way, and get out of paying the 6% commission.

The way it works is: The seller somehow gets the address, and makes a secret deal with the buyer.
They both wait out the agents (lets say 90 day) exclusive contract.

There's a house for sale in my neighborhood. Want to buy it?

Sold! Man, deals like that don't last long.

On a mildly more serious note, I noticed a foreclosed home in my neighborhood that had the address on the listing sheet, but when I clicked on it for more detail, you couldn't find the address. Kind of stupid, but I think Zillow probably doesn't care.

That's a great point Rickster. I'll be looking for that avenue too, thanks!

Do you think that makes you unique, or something?:D
