How do you get true black on your TV? I have Panasonic plasma and i can't seem to get real pitch black. To me black level is the most important thing. I have my brightness set to 10%...should it be at 0? Does black level get created from the processor in the DVD player or is it purely based on the quality of the TV?

I always compare my TV to my friends B&O Tube because that picture is the best I have ever seen. He says its because of the built in processor her has. If that is the case if I buy a DVD player with a top notch processor will I reach the black level quality he has?

You might try NSF calibration, but you'll never get as good of black level with current plasma technology as you will with CRT. Black levels are getting better with DLP, LCD, Plasma, ect, but so far CRT is still King in that regard. You might want to ask the Admin- I believe at least one or two is ISF Cert'd. They may be able to give you some tips.

Black intensity is a product of the type of display unit (TV), the processor of the DVD player will neither add or subtract from the intensity of the black.

The contrast ratio of CRT is significantly higher than LCD which is also higher than Plasma, which in a nutshell is why your friends tube has blacker blacks than your plasma.

Besides playing with the calibration of the TV, try decreasing the ambient light in your viewing room.
