Ready to take my Denon swimming

Hi there,
I'm a new guy with probably an old problem. I have a Denon. Denon provides, in my opinion, some of the poorest written instructions on this planet. But that's another topic.
I have an AVR 4310CI set up for 5.1 in the living room. All is well there. I have 2 speakercraft outdoor speaker that would love to drive with this amp but the instructions refer you to this page and that page so many times I simply get lost. I have the speakers connected to amp at the 'surround back/amp assign' plugs and the rest is configuration. I would like to channel sound from an iPad or iPhone outside but it won't let me. Plays fine inside but outside is a no go. Someone to me I need an audio converter because that channel won't handle digital? Makes no sense! I've tried all I can. I've even read stuff from demons web site where they obviously have the same stupid people writing manuals there! If I could afford to by something else this thing would go in the trash can right now, after a trip in the pool of course. If anyone has any idea how to get started I'm all ears.

Betcha you're trying to use zone 2 for this.

For zone 2, all roads lead to analog.

This receiver, like most, won't feed a digital signal to Zone 2. Once you accept this fact, the skies will clear, the sun will come out, a rainbow will appear, and peace and happiness will rule.

The cheapest work-around to this is to use the stone age method of taking the output via the headphone jack to a spare high-level (aux) input.

Either that, or get some sort of external device that will convert the Ipod's digital output to analog, to feed that aforementioned aux port.

Or, simply use the "B" speaker outputs.
