Ready to pull trigger...re-assure me, guys

I'm ready to place my order for a Panny TH-50PHD8UK with Visual Apex...and I'm getting nervous. I have never purchased a major piece of electronics from an internet provider before. Can you re-assure me...

- they are reliable?
- I will have recourse if anything goes wrong with the unit?
- is there now a better model out there at the price?

Also, I'm pretty handy. Can I install this myself, with one other person? Or should I pay for a custom installation.

Thanks for indulging my skittishness (I only change my hardware every 6 years or so).

Not to freak you out or anything, but as soon as you buy your tv, it's already obsolete. There will be, guaranteed, something better and cheaper out next week. Just take the plunge. Don't worry, we'll all be here holding your hand as you do.

How's that for reassuring!?!?

No, but seriously, you're buying a great television. I'm actually looking to purchase the same set, but will hold off for a couple of months. If you feel like it will address your needs, you should have no doubts. Personally, I've never purchased anything from Visual Apex, but they seem fairly reputatble based on everything I've read on this website. Good luck and keep us updated on how you like the set.

The 8UK is a commercial model with no HDMI input card I am pretty darn sure. You will want to have that card installed DEFINITELY so that your set isn't obsolete the day you buy it.

The set itself has a very solid track record and Panasonic is will known for long term quality and reliability with their plasma displays.

While I lean more towards the consumer models with all the cards and everything built in already, the 8UK is still a great unit and can save you a bit of cash if you are willing to do some legwork.

HANGING IT? If so, then get a decent mount (I got one off eBay for under 100 bucks - worked great!) and make sure you are bolting it to the wall. Use lag screws for this. As long as you are hitting the studs solidly in the wall, then it is easy and only takes 4 screws.

Took me less than an hour to hang my 42" Samsung earlier this year.

If you are running cables down behind the wall - that is FAR more difficult than the actual hanging of the plasma.

Thanks

Thanks for the comments. I'm using a Denon 2910 player, which has both DVI and HDMI out...and I'm getting an Outlaw processor which has DVI out...so I'm getting the Panny with a DVI card. Any drawbacks versus getting the HDMI? Hmmm..maybe I should get both.

Ive also heard good things about visual apex and Im also envious of that plasma! It's a great one and considering how much plasmas have dropped in price since this time last year, what you waiting for? Go for it!!! Be sure to post a few pics of your setup when done!:)
