Ready to pull the trigger!!

After doing my homework on the various subs out there (my head is still spinning) I've narrowed it down to the Velo SPL-1200R. I did post a question a little while ago & I got some really great advice. The only restriction that I had was the subs size...these dimensions are at the max (16.5"h, 17" for both width & depth). My room is approx 3000cu ft (13x32x7). A lot of great subs (and I mean great) were eliminated just by their dimensions. I wish I could go bigger but it's just not possible. The Velo DD-12 was an option but I believe the SPL-1200R doesn't give up much at all in comparison except for the hugh difference in price.

Also, a lot of feedback also recommended I go with the 1200R & not (2) 1000R's. Any other comments on that. I kinda like the idea of only having the one sub for simplicity. I'm only looking for two channel performance & not HT duties. What do you think!

if its price, drop down to the dd10, it uses the same amp and magnet and will be better than than the splr. The control(subsonic, and others) on the dd series is worth the extra$$ and keep you below 20hz:D

I really don't think a 10" sub would work in my size room (3000cu ft) It would struggle to do it's job properly. I think I pretty much have to stick to at least a 12" sub to deliver the performance needed.

the spl12 will struggle more:D than the dd10, but since you made up your mind before you posted, stick with the one you want and enjoy the new equipment

also if you dont mind me asking, what are the height limits in regards to. When you were looking at the martin logan awhile back you had mentioned 19" as a limit, and with the velos it was lower i think. Btw that ml sub is great preformer

Your memory serves you well. At one time I could have gone to that height, but after a few room changes the size limitations shrunk abit. You always have to keep the wife happy! :)

What is your reasoning that the SPL 1200R would struggle as compaired to the DD-10 in my room? I would think a 12" woofer would perform better than a 10" woofer in a 3000cu ft room. Am I misinformed.

imo the dd with equalization will perform better in the room, your are correct to a degree in regards to woofer size, there are other factors that will come into play though. If you like the spl, and it fits your budget, pull the trigger; as i was just giving my opinion in regards to the dd and splr lines. They both are good subs, and should provide excellent sound.

Woofer size does not indicate sound pressure output or low frequency extension when looking at different lines of subwoofers. The HSU STF-2 (10") that I am letting loose of will outperform many 12" subwoofers in both output and extension.

The DD10 is from a higher series that uses different parts and design to achieve higher output and better extension than the lower SPL line.
