Have been casting around, digging in, reading reviews since Nov. 03.
Went to soundrooms; disillusioned by perceptions of receivers (Yamaha, Denon, Sony, Onkyo, HK) there compared to info on this forum and others.
Started with Consumer Reports; went to web; settled first on Onkyo 601 and almost committed.
Ready to buy HK AVR 525!
Have searched many sellers, but do not trust reviews; been there, done that.
Have not been able to audition to my satisfaction.
Want to buy from a reputable dealer, get a good price, and get guaranteed satisfaction with minimum hassle.
Is this asking too much?

Well, as luck would have it, I just answered my own question, but don't know about the "guaranteed satisfaction" part yet:
Found out-of-box AVR 525 at Circuit City (Atlanta metro area), not local, drove 20 miles when local store looked it up and told me where to find it, for $510. It was priced at 609, but I informed the salesman that the other salesman at local store told me the in-box price was 599, and it was on sale for 10% off, and would probably require manager intervention to get the display model at at the right price. He complied, and I was out of there in about 10 minutes.
This receiver is discontinued at Circuit City, so
IF YOU WANT IT, GET IT NOW.
As far as I know at this point, these items are included:
1 Receiver
2 Remotes
1 AM antenna
1 FM antenna
1 Owner's Manual
They had lost the manual, and I did not know about the antennas until I went home and downloaded/printed the manual from HK. This took a litttle over an hour because I printed at 600 dpi. Print is very fine, and 300 dpi doesn't quite get it. 60 pages. Over a half an ink cartridge (HP).
Good luck!
