Hey there, just started here and saw that you might be able to help.
I have a receiver, the RCA listed above, that was shipped poorly to me in a box that was too big with no packing..so needless to say it got jerked around during shipping. When the I got it the volume was disconnected from the inside do to all the rattling around during shipping. I opened it up and reattached the electronic componant to the volume knob.
Now the problem.
Everything is working normal, but the volume is very very faint and wont turn up until the knob it up to about 65% and then, BOOM. It's on from 65% to 100%...but turn in down past 65% and it goes back to very faint again. (200w system, so it makes everyone in the house jump)
Have an idea? I figure the volume knob got bonked one too many times during shipping, but was wondering if I had to replace it or what?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you will have to replace the control.

If at all possible, file a claim against the person that shipped it to you, since they were clearly inept.

yeah, i figured as much, thx!
Those units were made for and sold by radio shack. It is an older two channel unit.

The schematic does not seem available anywhere. However I found a parts list on the Radioshack site. I think you are looking for a 100 K ohm, log taper ganged control. These types of controls are now very hard if not impossible to find.

I have a supply of singles, that I have found a way to make up a ganged control. I also have some vintage controls probably by now in variable condition. This issue has become one of the biggest problems in vintage restoration.
