My rt2500 would not turn on last week even though the standby light was on. I unplugged it and replugged power and it worked fine. Same thing happened again...standby indicator light on but now will not turn on at all. Tryed different power source and still nothing.
Any suggesstion for a "Total Newbie" PLEASE???

first question, why would u buy a rca receiver? dont u know what rca stands for? i'm not trying to be a smart a$$ but rca is not known for building quality receivers. have u tried checking the speaker wires to see if theyre shorted? did u connect the speakers correctly?

Got a great deal on it as it was a floor model. Quite happy with the performance and sound until this happened. This is my first home theater system. All consumer ratings I found on the net on this package looked good(4-4 1/2 out of 5).
All connections look good on speakers.

What "does" RCA stand for?

thanks

RCA, etc.

RCA - Radio Corporation of America. Currently, RCA is owned by General Electric, and I'm sure the previous poster had some smart aleck remark in mind when they asked if you knew what RCA meant.

RCA makes good bargain equipment, but uses bargain electrical components - transformers, resistors, capacitors, etc.

If the standby light is on, really it means the fuse hasn't blown. Your problem could be as simple as a bad relay, or SCR transistor that turns on the "main power" inside the unit as opposed to standby. Unless you have the electrical repair knowledge yourself, you're doomed it to a repair shop or send it to RCA for repair. The cost to fix the unit might exceed what you can get a new replacement for.

Some general history of RCA as a company and brand:

The same exact thing happened to me. The 1st time I re-plugged it and it worked. The 2nd time it wouldn't go on anymore. The finny thing is that it happened the day that my warranty on the thing ran out. I hardly even used the thing, and it broke on me.

I hate to say it but I would not recommend RCA CD players either. We got a bunch in for in-store players (I work in a used CD store chain). None of them worked after a year.

I thought RCA was bought by Thompson Consumer Electronics from France.
