Rating of cable brands

I am about to purchase a number of audio and video cables. Past readings of various posts indicate that the range of cost from manufacturer to manufacturer is extremely wide. I found this to be quite valid when I priced HDMI cables. Wow, the difference in price is amazing.

Other posts have indicated that high price cables are not necessarily of greater quality than many modestly priced brands. So, how does one tell which brand to buy?

I would apprciate learning how you rate the various manufactuers. In other words, are Monster cables actually superior to AR or to Phillips, etc?

You'll find a lot of Impact Acoustics and Bluejeans cable fans around here. I have no reason to believe these two cables are over-piced for what they offer, unlike in the case of Monster cables, where the general feeling is that they FAR too overpriced for what they offer. Its not that Monster is a terrible cable...it's just very expensive for what it does.

For the rankings, check out this article on this site.

Read the posted links. Some cable use depends on some factors: distance and signal transmitted such as audio, video or HDMI type signals.

Superior is very subjective, isn't it? In what respect, one should ask? Construction? Signal transmission? Looks?
Then, if it is signal transmission, one should ask: is it noticeably different? Is the $ worth it?
