Rant: Canadian Prices on AVRs!

Honestly, I'm getting sick of this! I've been looking for almost 2 months now on any bargain I could find for a new or used receiver strong enough to power my Polks and additional speakers to be determined. The markup at stores are insane! It's very difficult to find a mid level 7.1 receiver without paying through the roof. With the Canadian dollar so high, you'd expect import savings to be passed on down to the consumer. Ya Right! At the same time, I'm seeing my US brothers getting amazing deal after deal. That hurts!

What's worse is ebay prices in Canada. Some of the used prices on 2-3 year old receivers are selling for almost they went for new. It's actually cheaper to buy from the US now and pay those stupid import fees than to buy here.

My budget is $450can max (I'm a University student with loans up the wazooo), so help a fellow audioholic out with recommendations or links to deals, etc... I'm not looking for Pioneer Elite or Denon 3805 quality, but something nice with at least 3 optical ins. Something like the Denon 2105 is perfect. Hell, even a beefy 6.1 AVR from 2003 or so would suffice. I'll most likely be using a 6.1 speaker setup soon anyhow.

I hear ya man, I'm a fellow Canadian as well, and I've had to give in and buy a lot of my stuff from the states. I just came accross a local store that has really good prices and lots of perfectly good floor models to choose from. I should be buying Rotel separates, or a Denon/Yamaha/NAD/Arcam receiver from him pretty soon.

o_O i may have to go pick up one. I finally convinced my mom to fix up the basement theater for my dads birthday. Im going to trade her my polk center and surrounds, and my receiver + full installation and calibration for a new receiver and timber matching sinclair speakers :) I was looking at the RX-V2600 or RX-V2500 though.

Keep an eye on Costco and be patient. A few months ago I bought a Denon AVR1705 from them. The price was as good as you can get anywhere. Other than that, you are right, U.S. prices are much better.

Unless the middle man wants to give up some off his profits, don't expect the prices to drop anytime soon. Its upto you as the consumer to negotiate the best deal you can.

That's a heck of a deal on the 4600. You should buy all 16 of them and rattle them off on ebay.ca. for a nice profit. Then you can keep the last one with some change in your pockets. ;)

haha, yeah I seriously thought about it, but I wouldn;t want to be responsible if any of the auctions didn;t work out for any reason, also the sale was two days only. if given the opportunity I'd probably try a couple. Just have to keep my eyes open.

Picked up the 1015 today. I wanted the black but Best Buy only carries the Silver version. Ugh.
