rant! back panels too cluttered!

I just read this reviewer's note on a $7,000 blue ray player...

"On the video side, it has a fully compliment of composite (I'd love to meet the person with this player using this connection just so I could understand why)"

Why indeed!

I can understand a fair number of low-end, or maybe even mid-range, pieces of kit needing to handle composite for users with a mix of newer and older stuff...

But when you start talking about anything above, say the $600 mark, why litter the back of our units with all this useless stuff?

How does it hurt me?
#1 - I just priced out banana plugs at monoprice - $45 plus dollars for something I'm rather not use - but I just CAN NOT direct wire my speakers anymore because my receiver's back panel is just too cluttered!
#2 - Internally, there's got to be similiar clutter - extra solder joints to potentially fail & short, etc...

My hat's off to the next review that recognizess a mid tier reciever with a sensible array of outputs!

Seriously, I have no life.
That's why people should call a professional.:D A good one, preferably. One who doesn't get all PO'd and flustered when they see a lot of cables, like someone I worked with. The guy does it for his job and I was at his house when he changed his TV. All he has is the TV, the separate piece with the TV that takes all of the inputs, a combo VHS/DVD, a receiver and a cable box. He started freaking out and when I asked what hos problem was, he said "There's so many wires!".

This is one reason I don't like using the holes on the side of binding posts to attach the speaker wires. I also separate the cables by type and secure them in a way that they come in from a different direction, which lets me get to all of them without having to use needle nose pliers. Lacing bars, like the kind used in Middle Atlantic or other brands of equipment racks, can be screwed to the back of the shelves and the cables attached using wire ties.

First part edited over brain failure composite-vs-component.

They are finally pulling the S-Video plugs from receivers

Personally, I'd like to see more units go to *all* inputs being programmable (mine lets me assign HDMI, Component, and Digital, but not analog), allowing the reduction in the number of plugs on the back relative to the number of devices supported (is your DVD player really going to need two-channel analog-in?)

How does it hurt me?

At this price, you should be using separates.

There are certainly some out there. I'm about to replace both receivers at my parents house for insufficient comonent and digital inputs (these were in the $400-$600 range when new)... ironically with older-but-more-input-filled units.

I think you missed my point highfigh. No, I will not be hiring a professional to help me hook up my speaker wires, nor am I flustered over lots of wires.
